Summary
The book has 14 cases that Dr. Chih-Yun Hsu worked with. We divided these stories into three types: dialogue with oneself, dialogue with family, and dialogue with society.
Dialogue with oneself is divided into two parts: realizing you are LGBTQ+ but not accepting it, and realizing you are LGBTQ+ and accepting it later in life. Dialogue with family includes family members who strongly oppose, from limiting freedom to not accepting, and finally accepting. Some families try to learn respect, but their words are still hard to accept.
Dialogue with society includes people who cannot follow their religion and fear they will go to hell; people who enjoy dressing in drag but worry about others’ eyes, which may lead to secret habits like taking or collecting things.
In the end, all these stories show the importance of acceptance and empathy. Although it seems simple, it is hard to put into practice. We hope society can have more empathy and less criticism so that the world can become a better place.
